iOS 7.1 beta 4 not jailbreak-able using Evasi0n7

Just before Christmas last year, Evad3rs surprised everyone by launching Evasi0n7, the first untethered jailbreak tool that worked with any device running iOS 7+. The release even surprised jailbreak devs, including Saurik, who hadn’t even got Cydia ready for the iOS 7 at that point. Perhaps the one pleasant surprise was that the jailbreak also worked with iOS 7.1 beta. In fact, it’s worked with every beta version of iOS 7. Up until now.

iH8sn0w tweeted yesterday evening that the exploit used to jailbreak iOS 7 has been patched up in the latest beta version of iOS 7.1.

The developer also went on to stated that Evad3rs won’t be working on a version to work on future beta versions of iOS 7.1. However, that’s not to say we won’t see one that works with the official public release.

Personally, I wouldn’t get your hopes up too much for iOS 7.1 tools. Look at last year, we didn’t get an official jailbreak tool for iOS 6.1 until after iOS 7 was here, and even then, it was for pre-A7 chip devices. So, if I was a gambling man, I’d bet against a new version of Evasi0n 7 for iOS 7.1.

How to jailbreak your iPhone or iPad running iOS 7.0.4 with evasi0n 7.

evasi0n 7 has recently been updated with many fixes to both the jailbreak itself and to Cydia, which solve a lot of the concerns that kept us from recommending it until now. If you’ve been waiting patiently to jailbreak iOS 7.0.4, we can walk you through the entire process from start to finish. Here’s everything you need to know!

evasi0n 7 compatibility

The evasi0n 7 version 1.0.4 jailbreak is compatible with all iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch models running iOS 7.0 thru iOS 7.0.4 including the iPhone 5s, iPad mini with Retina display, iPhone 5, and any other device capable of running iOS 7.

Back up your iPhone or iPad

As always, make sure you backup your iPhone or iPad before attempting to jailbreak. Also, make sure you have updated to iOS 7.0.4 via iTunes and not over-the-air. This is mainly because OTA updates have been known to cause issues with the jailbreak process itself, so be sure you restore or update via iTunes before continuing.

How to jailbreak iOS 7.0.4 with evasi0n 7 version 1.0.4

1. Back up your iPhone or iPad. Always do this before attempting to jailbreak.
2. Download the evasi0n jailbreak tool: Download for Mac, Download for PC
3. Plug your iPhone or iPad into your computer.
4. Launch evasi0n on your Mac or PC. If you’re on a Mac running Mountain Lion or Mavericks, you may have to right click the evasi0n jailbreak tool and clickOpen and confirm you’d like to open it.
5. Click Jailbreak and then wait.
6. After a few seconds, you’ll see a message asking you to unlock your iPhone or iPad and tap on the evasi0n7 icon. Do that now.
7. You may be asked to unlock your device one more time if you have a passcode.
8. evasi0n should now give you a message that your device was successfully jailbroken and the process is done. Just click Exit on your computer.
9. Your device may reboot a few more times in order to complete the process and that’s it! You should now have Cydia on your iPhone or iPad once more.

Once the jailbreak is complete, you’ll want to pop into Cydia in order to update it. the filesystem will automatically update on its own but there may be other updates you need to install. Other than that, you’re good to go!

The iOS 7 Jailbreak Is Finally Worth Installing On Newer iPhones And iPads.

The iOS 7 jailbreak was released last Sunday, but it was a messy release that had a lot of bugs and compatibility issues.Today the last major issue with the jailbreak was fixed for newer iOS devices with the A7 chip.

Jay ‘saurik’ Freeman, the creator of Cydia, has updated Mobile Substrate for iOS 7 and the new 64-bit architecture found in the iPhone 5s, iPad Air, and second-gen iPad mini.

For the less jailbreak savvy, Mobile Substrate is essentially the backbone that allows most Cydia tweaks to work. Without it, tweaks that want to modify iOS on a core level simply can’t function. While jailbreak apps like iFile will work, more low-level extensions like biteSMS will not.

There are two main reasons Mobile Substrate is just now being updated more than a week after the Evad3rs released their iOS 7 jailbreak. The first is that Apple switched from a 32-bit to 64-bit processor in its new iOS hardware, which means that Mobile Substrate needs to be recompiled. The second is that Freeman was not informed beforehand that the jailbreak was being released, so he didn’t have a chance to update things on his end for Cydia to be fully compatible for all devices.

Now it’s up to jailbreak developers to update their tweaks for 64-bit in Cydia. Even though Mobile Substrate now works, make sure to check if a tweak is compatible with your device before installing. You can download the iOS 7 jailbreak from the Evasi0n website.

Cydia updated for iOS 7 and nothing dodgy found inside evasi0n7.

This year – relative to last – the gap between iOS 7 launch and its jailbreak tool being released was incredibly small. Along with news of its release came reports stating that a Chinese company had funded, and with that came rumors of sketchy code being used and the software being infected. Those reports weren’t helped by the fact that Saurik (Jay Freeman) hadn’t had time to get an official, tested version of Cydia for iOS 7.

Thankfully, that has changed. Today, Cydia was updated for iOS 7. Its look is drastically changed to move it in to iOS 7′s design territory. It’s colorful, flat and a touch more attractive. It’s still clearly Cydia, but it has a fresher white look with clean lines and flatter icons.

As well as this update, we also have confirmation that the evasion7 is completely free of invasive software. Geohot has tested it, reversed engineered it and discovered no foul play. But he did reveal some competition between evad3rs and himself:

With this seeming divide in the jailbreak world, and the need for financing from other sources to get anything done, I’d suggest the jailbreak scene’s future is far from certain.

Why you should wait to jailbreak iOS 7.

An iOS 7 jailbreak has been released by the evasi0n team. What’s more, it’s untethered and will work on any iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad that can run iOS 7.0 through iOS 7.0.4. Unfortunately, that’s where the good news ends and the uncertainty begins. There are lots of reasons, even post-iOS 7, that someone might want to jailbreak. However, there are even more important reasons, with this specific jailbreak, that everyone should hold off, at least for now…

The safety of your data

According to numerous reports, when using the new evasi0n jailbreak for iOS 7, if your iPhone is set to Chinese, it will install certain Chinese “app stores”. Given the nature of those “app stores”, that should ring huge alarm bells for anyone even considering the jailbreak. Worse, some are going as far to say that the tool spams Cydia repos.

Privacy and security are the absolute most important concerns when it comes to allowing any tool to modify your iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad. Unless and until more is known about exactly which hooks are in this jailbreak, and why, it’s impossible to determine how safe the jailbreak is.

For this reason alone, nobody should be using it right now.

Cydia, stability, and compatibility

According to his posts on Twitter, Jay Freeman, known as saurik, and the creator of Cydia, had no idea about the jailbreak ahead of time. That means he can’t guarantee how any of the foundational jailbreak infrastructure, including mobile substrate, will function on iOS 7. So far saurik has gotten some core functions of Winterboard working but hasn’t pushed the update yet.

That saurik, and other prominent jailbreak developers, didn’t know about evasi0n is in and of itself alarming. Not only does it mean most popular jailbreak apps, tweaks, and themes won’t be updated, but it means none of them can yet vouch for the safety and stability of the jailbreak.

You’ll have to jailbreak again anyway

Since the evad3rs team also didn’t test a current build of substrate, and the bundled version of Cydia isn’t official, another update to evasi0n will likely have to be pushed in order to fix the compatibility issues. That means you’ll just as likely have to go through the jailbreak process again at a later date.

That might be fun for people who love to tinker, but not for people who just want to jailbreak and get on with their lives.

iOS 7.1

iOS 7.1 is currently in beta 2. Why the evad3rs team didn’t wait until it was out to push the release button is uncertain. However, it means that Apple may just patch whatever exploit evasi0n is using before 7.1 is released to the public. That means anyone who wants both will have to go back to waiting on a jailbreak all over again.

Other things to think about

Since you normally need to restore via iTunes, not OTA, in order for a jailbreak to work, there’s nothing wrong with backing up and restoring via iTunes on iOS 7.0.4 now. That way you’re ensuring you’ll be able to jailbreak if iOS 7.1 drops before issues are worked out and Apple stops signing 7.0.4.

As always, we’ll update as we know more! But for now, we’d highly recommend staying away from the current evasi0n jailbreak.

Latest iOS update blocks Evasi0n jailbreak.

Jailbreakers will take note that iOS 6.1.3, released yesterday, blocks the Evasi0n jailbreak. The Evasi0n jailbreak is the most popular one to date,according to Forbes, which reports that it has been used to jailbreak 18 million iOS devices in the six weeks since its launch.

Ironically enough, even though iOS 6.1.3 blocks the Evasi0n jailbreak, Apple thanked the Evasi0n team in security notes accompanying the upgrade. The people behind Evasi0n say that they probably will not release another jailbreak until the next major release of iOS. What that means for potential jailbreakers is that if you want to jailbreak your iPhone you cannot upgrade past iOS 6.1.2. If you do you’ll lose the ability to jailbreak your device until the next major release of iOS.

Evad3rs update the evasi0n jailbreak tool to version 1.5, now offers improved boot times.

The Evad3rs team have released another update for their hugely popular jailbreaktool known as evasi0n. The latest update sees mostly bug fixes surrounding boot up times of jailbroken devices; you should see a significant improvement with version 1.5. The update also offers a refreshed Cydia package list.

The team has also released an update that you can install via the Cydia jailbreak installer if you are already jailbroken; there is no need to re-jailbreak to get the latest version. Simply fire up Cydia and you should see an update 0.4 for Evasi0n.

The team certainly hasn’t rested on their laurels and have always been on the ball with updates to the evasi0n jailbreak tool. Earlier this week, Apple released iOS 6.1.2 and within hours, evasi0n was updated with full support for iOS 6.1.2; pretty impressive stuff.

Evasi0n Jailbreak Tool Updated to Version 1.3, With Support for iOS 6.1.1

As expected, the popular “evasi0n” untethered iOS 6 jailbreak tool has just been updated to version 1.3 (as revealed by the Evad3rs team on Twitter). The update adds support for iOS 6.1.1 on the iPhone 4S, which Apple released earlier today.

• – Support for 6.1.1 on the iPhone 4S.

The update is only necessary for users who have already updated to iOS 6.1.1. In any other case, it should not be necessary to re-jailbreak your device using the new tool. The updated tool can be downloaded directly from the official website.

Evasi0n jailbreak tool updated to version 1.2, contains bug fixes and disables OTA updates.

The evasi0n jailbreak tool has now been updated twice since its initial release on Wednesday. The latest version which sees it hit the 1.2 release mark contains some reasonably important enhancements. If you have been holding off jailbreaking and decide to do it today or in the near future, make sure you get the latest version.

Since release, the evad3rs team have fixed various issues with the jailbreak some of which include long reboot issues, timezone problems and the strangest one of all, the weather app appearing on iPads. A lot of people had been experiencing that last issue when jailbreaking your iPad all of a sudden the Apple stock weather app appears on your home screen.

Another important feature of the latest 1.2 release is the option of disabling OTA (Over The Air) software updates. This will prevent you from accidentally updating your iOS software when a new version gets released which would subsequently lose your jailbreak.

If you have already jailbroken your iOS 6.0 or 6.1 device with earlier versions of the Evasi0n jailbreak, there’s really no need to do it again. Each of these updates are available through Cydia as an update on your device. The Evasi0n jailbreak has certainly proved popular; we heard a few days ago that Cydia had received visits from over 7 million devices since the evasi0n jailbreak release.

Update Released In Cydia To Fix iOS 6 Weather App Bug In Evasi0n.

After the untethered Evasi0n jailbreak was released for iOS 6 devices, we told you about a bug that was causing Apple’s stock Weather app to crash on jailbroken iPhones. On the iPad, the jailbreak was unhiding an old iPhone version of the Weather app.

There was a manual way to fix the bug, but now an official patch has been released in Cydia for all devices that have been jailbroken with Evasi0n.

One of the hackers behind Evasi0n tweeted the news about the patch earlier today.

The update to UIKit Tools should be available under the “Changes” section of Cydia on your jailbroken iOS device. If you don’t see it, refresh the Changes page and it should appear. There’s also an update to the Evasi0n untether itself that fixes an issue with long reboot times.
